What a night, what an atmosphere, what a close gala. Great evening with great support and a great result for the Wigan swimmers.

With a gala full of relays and no individual swims this had to be an event where we had a good all round team. Due to sickness a few swimmers couldn't make it to the event but those that remained rallied round and swam their hearts out to make up the numbers in some of the older age groups.

The first half of the gala had the girls swimming their medley relays and the boys swimming their freestyle relays and after 12 events the competition couldn't have been closer with Howe Bridge on 23 points, Tyldesley on 24 and Wigan on 25 points. The team dug deep and won several of the events in the second half of the gala and when it came to the final 12 x 1 mixed cannon relay the competition could have been won by either Wigan or Tyldesley so all rested on the last race. But what can we say, the swimmers pulled through and produced a fantastic finale to the evening, winning the event and gaining the Ernest Chadwick Trophy for Wigan Swimming club for an unprecedented 9^th time in a row.

Well done to all swimmers and also particular thanks to Phil, Marianne and Louise for managing to rearrange the swimming order at the last minute and put a fine set of swimmers together.
